This is the 16th Appearance of The 200 Meter Backstroke Event

The 200-meter backstroke has been featured for the sixteenth time. To begin with, it was held in 1900.

Before 1964, the competition had not been included in the Summer Olympics, but since then it has always been a part of the schedule.

There was a men’s 100-meter backstroke competition instead from 1904 to 1960. The 200-meter race was the only event that year.

Starting in 1968, both the 100-meter and 200-meter competitions have continued to be conducted annually.

Ryan Murphy, the reigning Olympic champion, is set to compete again, as are the other four finalists from the 2016 Olympics.

(Xu Jiayu of China, Christian Diener of Germany, Ryosuke Irie of Japan, and Evgeny Rylov of Russia, who competed under the ROC banner).

Both the 2017 and 2019 World Championships have been won by Rylov, with Murphy coming in second both years.

Defying the United States’ dominance in the event, Evgeny Rylov of Russia takes first place in the 200-meter backstroke at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Russia’s two-time world champion in the backstroke, Evgeny Rylov, won the 200-meter event on Friday to add to his 100-meter victory from earlier in the week.

He crossed the finish line in a new Olympic record time of 1 minute, 53.27 seconds, besting defending champion Ryan Murphy of the United States (1 minute, 54.15 seconds) and Britain’s Luke Greenbank (1:54.72).

The United States had won the men’s 200-meter backstroke at the previous six Olympic Games in a row before Rylov’s triumph.

In addition to his two backstroke golds, 24-year-old Rylov also won a silver medal in the men’s 4×200-meter relay in Tokyo.

Conclusion

Masse, who swam in lane 6, was the first to the 50-meter turn. She used her innate swiftness to stay in the lead through the halfway point.

Still in the lead as they rounded the turn at 150 metres, Masse was shortly overtaken by Australian Kaylee McKeown, who had previously won gold in the 100-meter backstroke at the Tokyo Olympics.

By 0.74 of a second, she beat Masse to the wall, and the Canadian won silver in 2 minutes, 5.42 seconds, breaking her own national record by roughly half a second.
