Table tennis player Y.J. Lin Was born in Taiwan on August 17, 2001. He uses a shakehand grip and plays left-handed for the Butterfly brand.

Yuanshan, Yilan County, Taiwan is Y.J. Lin birthplace. He recently completed high school at Taipei Municipal Nei-Hu Vocational High School and now attends Fu Jen Catholic University.

From late 2020 to early 2021, Y.J. Lin trained in China alongside the Chinese national team and other selected foreigners. After defeating Quadri Aruna in the quarterfinals and Simon Gauzy in the semis, he reached the finals of WTT Contender at World Table Tennis’ first event WTT Doha.

Where he was ultimately defeated by Dimitrij Ovtcharov. Against Ruwen Filus, Y.J. Lin was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the WTT Star Contender tournament. Y.J. Lin however, secured the number four seed for the men’s singles competition at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Y.J. Lin lost his status as the fourth seed in the Olympics to Hugo Calderano in April when ITTF changed the seeding method. Taiwanese table tennis players Y.J. Lin and Cheng I-ching had contrasting outcomes in their first-round singles matches at the Olympics in Tokyo the morning after winning bronze in the mixed doubles.

Y.J. Lin the fifth seed in men’s singles, never trailed by more than two points in his first round match against Anton Kaellberg of Sweden, winning 11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 in 42 minutes.

Only getting approximately five hours of sleep after the mixed doubles final on Monday night didn’t stop him from winning. The teenager, 19, went to sleep at around 1 a.m. and got up at 6 a.m. to get ready for his 9 a.m. game.

Y.J. Lin scored first in game two, taking a four-point lead. Tsuboi rallied to tie the score at six, but Y.J. Lin won the match with three straight points. Y.J. Lin won the third game 11-2 in under six minutes, bringing the Taiwanese player within one win of the championship.

Y.J. Lin dropped the third and fifth games by scores of 9-11 each, while Tsuboi took an early 4-0 lead in the sixth game before Y.J. Lin rallied to win by a score of 13-11.

While Y.J. Lin was able to overcome his lack of sleep, fourth-seeded Cheng in women’s singles was unable to put her emotions from the night before behind her and play her best against a player in peak form in the round of 32.
