Jamaican swimmer and Olympic medalist A. Atkinson OD (born 11 December 1988) has retired. She finished fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2012 Summer Olympics, making her the second Jamaican swimmer to finish in the top four at an Olympics Games.

A slow heat on Sunday prevented Jamaica’s A. Atkinson from advancing to the semi-finals of the 100-meter breaststroke event. While swimming in Heat 3, the Jamaican sensation finished the first 50 metres in 31.48 seconds, giving her a narrow advantage over the rest of the competition.
But she lost steam in the final metres, coming back to touch the wall in third place, at a time of 1 minute, 7.70 seconds. The time for A. Atkinson second leg of the race was 36.22 seconds.
